[Update: I've been searching the web for webhost4life hosted sites, and I've found several now that seem to be experiencing the same problem as mine - Stuart's site was having the problem, too, so it isn't just me. Lame, lame, lame.]
[Update #2: The site's back up - The guy I was working with was really hesitant to do anything until the morning, but I found about five bajillion webhost4life sites that were down, and he finally called a server technician - Here's what I got back from him:
I contacted the server tech, and the reply I got from the server technician was that he was doing some testing for a new firewall we are going to implent in the near future. After he done testing it, he forgot the change the bandwidth back to the old settings, and this is the cause for all the slowdowns on the sites that you are seeing. The test lasted for about 30 minutes.
I do apologize for this situation, but the server tech was not trying to bring down anyone's site. Please try your site again, and if you have any questions, please let us know, thanks.
Isn't it comforting to know that the server technician wasn't trying to bring down anyone's site?
Nothing like a good old network admin to tell you what an idiot you are before realizing that the server room is on fire. I thought that it might have been a firewall issue, but didn't say anything since I had been assured that the network admin was accessing my site from outside the internal network. Am I going to be recommending webhost4life to future clients/friends? Take a guess.]
I was hoping to do a little blogging tonight, but it looks like the SQL Server I'm running against might be hosed. I have no idea, and the webhost4life support staff isn't being as helpful as I'd like. Apparently, there won't be anyone around until tomorrow to fix the problem (which they've pretty much denied exists), so things might not be working too well around here for a while.
My apologies. I'm definitely hoping to have this fixed before the PDC.
