Japanese wallpaper

I went out tonight and bought a copy of "Let's Go Japan." The "Let's Go" series of travel books is aimed at the financially conscious (read: poor) person who, in spite of his somewhat humble financial situation (read: owes everybody he knows money), would like to go to other countries and experience other cultures first-hand (read: go to McDonalds in Thailand).

On my way home, I nearly fumbled the book when I read this fabulous line under the "Personal Safety" heading:

To avoid unwanted attention, try to blend in as much as possible.

Well, thank you very much, travel book!

Does anybody else think it might be a tad difficult for a big, dumb, obnoxious white guy to fit in while traveling in Japan?

YEAH. That's what I thought.

Hi Rory,
I am not sure why you were upset about the book comment ;). Be normal, travel, have fun and blend in into the enviroment. That is what I did while I went to Hong Kong http://ipattern.com/photos/ViewPhotos.aspx?cat=Hong%20Kong%202004&photo=DSC00880. I was part of the culture like any other native there ;).

My two cents, Maxim

At the very least it's easier to blend in for a normal white male than it would be for a stickfigure.

Stickfigures always have trouble fitting in. I remember all the stickfigures at my school always got bullied.

One thing I've realized from your cartoons Rory: Googley eyes = Funny. I'm working on that look for my next presentation at work.

Let me guess - you're the small Chinese woman standing to the right of the enormous white guy.

Yeah - that's some good blending you're doing :)

Except that the stick figure is two-dimensional. In a pinch, he could just turn sideways and literally disappear :) That's some pretty good blending in...

How DARE you reduce my comic genius to one small and insignificant feature that is mainly the result of my inability to draw! I, sir, am OFFENDED in a most serious way.

(for the love of GOD, please don't tell anybody you've figured it out)
