Contest Question #1

[Note: Serge (rightly) complained in the comments that this question was too easy. I agree with him, but I wanted the Monday question to be simple (like Monday crosswords). The next two questions were designed to make you feel progressively less intelligent as the week goes on, so don't worry - this first one isn't indicative of the rest.]

OK - here's how this works.

Find the answer to this question and then write it down somewhere. In notepad, wordpad, or [whatever]pad.

Do not write your answer in the comments section. That'd just be very un-good.

On Friday, I'm going to post a form in which you'll be able to enter and submit your answers.

Also, the questions are going to get progressively harder (more frustrating (angering (irritating (infuriating)))) as the week goes on. This first one's easy, though.

[Note: The answer to this question can be found at www.msdnevents.com]

Question #1

What are the four (4) topics we'll be delivering this Fall for MSDN events? Give 'em to me in any order.

Here's the 1st question of Serge's contest:

What is your name ? [The answer can be found on any ID of yours].

Rory pleaaaase.... tell me I'm wrong. Tell me there's a catch. __You__ cannot be running a contest where you try give us the feeling that we're soooo smart that we could give the answer given such a very loosy clue as a URL where the reply is written just in front of our nose.
Why didn't simply you run a lottery ? At least, that would have been less insulting !

I sincerely don't want to be offensive. And I'm not saying I want a Google Labs-like kind of contest. But this looks to me the absolute other extremity.

FWIW.

Didn't you read this line of the post?

"Also, the questions are going to get progressively harder (more frustrating (angering (irritating (infuriating)))) as the week goes on. This first one's easy, though."

I *stated* that the first one would be easy, and that the rest would be less so.

Sometimes people complain.

Most of the time, they don't read the directions.

Yes, I did read the rules (yes, before posting ;-). But frankly, 'easy' is not the word that comes to my mind to describe that question. So I mostly stick to my opinion.

Still, I confess when re-reading my post that my words were tougher that my thoughts (er... how does one say that in English ?). Speaking of insult was probably not very appropriate. Especially to a guy who makes me laugh so loud and so often.

Serge.

Understandable. I also thought it was too easy, but I wanted to get things started quickly - it's Monday, after all, and most developers are still hungover from all the weekend moonshine.

Don't worry, though - I *promise* that the next two will be harder :)

I'm actually really excited about the next one. It will require a bit more effort.

Angus -

Sorry about that :|

They're listed on the msdnevents.com landing page under the "Fall Program 2004" heading (or something very similar to that).

So far this is kinda like an open book test. At least Rory's not asking us to interpret his dreams.

Please, enough of the parentheses. I am starting to have functional programming language (Lisp, Haskell) flashbacks from college. I should sue for all the therapy you just undid, Rory Blythe.

Seriously, I think you made the first question intentionally too easy to set everyone up for disappointment. Friday's question will probably by some obscure question about the tradeoffs of COM Interop versus PInvoke in Cobal.NET in terms of big O analysis.

Sorry for misspelling your last name in my last post. I can't help it. I went to public schools. The ironic thing is I spelled it right when google-ing about the contest.
