Contest Question #2

OK - here's how this works.

Find the answer to this question and then write it down somewhere. In notepad, wordpad, or [whatever]pad.

Do not write your answer in the comments section. That'd just be very un-good.

On Friday, I'm going to post a form in which you'll be able to enter and submit your answers.

[Note: Part of the answer to this question can be found at www.msdnevents.com, and part you're going to have to google for (or already know)]

Question #2

This one, as promised, is going to be a bit more difficult than Question #1. That one was a freebie.

To answer this question, you'll have to do the following:

1. Find the MSDN Events presenter for the state of Kentucky (for the foreigners (and abbreviation challenged Americans), the two letter abbreviation for the state of Kentucky is "KY" - you'll need to know this)

2. Find this presenter's LAST name (hint: it's six letters long)

3. Convert this name to lowercase (note: it is very important that you convert to lowercase, so don't skip this!)

4. Find the decimal (as in: not octal, not hex) ASCII values for each letter of the lowercase name

5. Add the values together - write this number down

6. Find the numerical date (mm/dd/yyyy in the USA - different format for other countries, but it doesn't matter) when Lee Harvey Oswald, the man who shot JFK, was himself assassinated - get the value for the day he was murdered (i.e. - if he had been killed on the 19th day of July in 1970, then the number you'd want would be "19")

7. Add this value to the sum from Step #5

Write the answer down, and wait for the final question on Friday...

Hey y'all,

I was just hoping to get not a hint, but a clarification... :o)

Having worked in delphi for years and being new to .net, I'm not quite sure what is meant by 'numerical' date. Rory, you didn't exactly say the 'day', you said 'numerical' date. I know in delphi, dates are stored as floats. The integer part of the float is the number of days since '12/30/1899 12:00 AM'. Anywho, I was juuuuust wondering if someone could clarify wether it's the day part or the entire date as a number?

Spanks,
Insano :)

Captain Insano (cool name, by the way) -

*I* can clarify that for you, mister.

I want the day part.

So, if the date were March 14, 2002 (03/14/2002 in American date style), I'd want the number 14.

Hope this helps...

Thanking you. Yes I thought I was being really original with that name (that's right, it's not my name in the *real world*) until someone told me i had just subliminally manifested it from the tv wrestler in The Water Boy.

> I want the day part.
Ahhh, excellent. So it's not a play on words to try and trick up those of us currently using borland (gasp) compilers! ;) hehe jk

Thank you *Candyman*! ¶:)
