MSDN Events in Boulder and Denver, CO

Hi.

My name's Rory, and I want to shove technical content down your throat at some MSDN Events.

I want to teach you:

- Object Oriented Programming in VB.NET

- Location and Intelligence using MapPoint Web Services

- Optimizing ASP.NET 1.1 Web Applications

- ASP.NET 2.0 Membership & Personalization

I also want a robot monkey slave that shoots photon bananas, but I find it's best to start with realistic goals (like "shov[ing] technical content down your throat") before moving on to the lofty goals ("photon bananas").

In light of feedback that the ASP.NET optimization talk was much more "profiling" than it was "optimization" (most notably from Dave Donaldson), I've modified the talk a bit, replacing the section on creating custom performance counters with a demo centered around the ASP.NET output and data caches. I got some good feedback when I presented this stuff in Corvallis last week, so hopefully it'll continue to please.

Other than that, I'm looking forward to heading back to Colorado.

The schedule (click on links for details):

- 11/03/2004: Boulder, CO

- 11/04/2004: Denver, CO

If, by the by, anybody knows where I can pick up a portable oxygen tank, please let me know.

I’m going to Oaxaca Mexico in three weeks; it is also a mile high. I’ve been there many times before and it takes me about a week to get acclimated, then I go down to the Pacific coast and run on the beach like an Olympian!

What blood type are you?
Maybe there is a Vampire who reads your blog who is willing to share his Halloween stash and give you a few thousand white blood cells?

Paul -

The scary thing is that I'm going to be talking for a four-hour stretch.

Last time I did this in Denver, I had a weird moment sometime around the third hour - I suddenly felt like I was falling - it was intense, and nearly sidetracked me from the talk.

Have to remember to inhale on occasion...

"One word: Ultranebs."

Thanks for the link, Brian.

I've learned that it's too expensive to breathe.

So when's the phoenix stop? You don't want to put that off for too long - I'd say you have until about mid-April/early-May before it gets miserable again :)

Phoenix isn't actually my territory - we'll be sending Bernard Wong out to your area (http://msdnevents.com/Speakers/default.aspx?ID=3).

I was raised there in the Boulder area...
A few suggestions should you have the time....

1) Drive up Basline road to Flagstaff Mountain, stop at the senic overlook, and grab a nice pic.

2) Notice the large rocks that look like "Flat Irons" called... "The Flatirons" visable from most anywhere in Boulder. They seem to be a different color at every sunrise. Very fun to climb, in the summer.

3) Stroll the downtown Pearl St. Mall, outside the Courthouse you will see a bust of a famous old Indian Chief Niwot. There is supposed to be a "Chief Niwot's Curse" on the valley that makes you return once you "lay eyes on the valley.

I could go on, but "a few" must stop at three.

Have fun "shoving that content" Rory.
