Tom Baker and his finite scarf

Word: thescarfwon'tlastforeveritis

Function: noun

Definition: The fear that there will never again be another Tom Baker episode of Dr. Who. Ever. And that you've already watched them all, all of them, and that you will never again, ever, see a new one. Never.

Those of you who understand, understand.

Those of you who don't, look at the train wreck that is my life.

And, if you're out there, Tom, and if you're listening, Tom, then hold me, Tom.

Hold me...

Here in Australia ABC TV [the publicly owned station] has been running Dr Who right from the very beginning [William Hartnell], and has just got up to the Tom Baker episodes, whose first three stories are incredible classics: "Robot", "Ark in Space" and "The Sontaran Experiment"

If I were John Pertwee I'd be pretty annoyed, and not just because I'd been dead for 8 years ;)

Rory, growing up my brother and I were big Dr. Who fans. My mom, who loves to knit, bought the pattern for Tom Bakers scarf that he wore. She nitted 2 scarf's. One was lost by my brother in a drunkin party but the last one still resides at my parents house. Maybe I should sell it on ebay.

Dear chap
You've just got a Leisure Hive DVD (or you should have)
With a Lalla Ward voiceover...
Haven't you realised that watching with voiceovers has just effectively doubled your number of episodes

Reduce your fear...

The nice thing about the DVDs is that they don't only have voice-overs, but they also have subtitles that add even more detail (stuff like "This is not the regular K9 prop blah blah blah...").

The problem is that I've already watched them with the voice-overs *and* the subtitles.

I don't know what I'm going to do...

Have you watched 'Little Britain'?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/littlebritain/

Its an excellent comedy currently in its second series in the UK. Tom Baker provides an excellent voice-over for it. If you have not seen it, I suggest you do, I feel it will be right up your street.

Enter the competition here...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/littlebritain/competitions/fact/

for submitting your own funny little quips like he voices throughout the series.

Here in Newport, Wales (UK) we've got an old police box that's had Tom Baker's scarf painted on it for years...

Rory, you might like this link:

http://freespace.virgin.net/neil.perryman/deadringers/baker.zip

It's an excerpt from a radioshow called DeadRingers in the UK where they have an incredibly good Tom Baker impersonator, and they call up the *real* Tom Baker on the phone.. it's an incredibly funny thing.

More archives found here (although lots are broken links):
http://www.tachyon.ic24.net/prank.htm
(the one with Tom Baker swearing is pretty funny)

In case you're interested, they're resurrecting Dr Who for a whole new series, with a british actor called Christopher Eccleston due to play the doctor - there's been a bit of press on it here in the UK (and much debate).
Link to the IMDB page for Dr Who (with some info about the new series):

Have you been sitting with your hand over your face for the last four hours? Or do I not understand the webcam?

The cam is only on when it's on.

Sometimes, it's not on, and an old image will just refresh.

Don't forget the web casts:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/doctorwho/webcasts/index.shtml

They've redone "Shada," by Douglas Adams, with Paul McGann, Lalla Ward (once Mrs. Tom Baker), John Leeson.

Colin Baker (NO relation to Tom) has also done one.

The saddest day of my life was the day Amazon sent me the last TomB Dr.Who that I did not own (I have to my knowledge all of his now) and I dreaded watching it knowing it was over so much so I waited 2 days...

Sometimes I think of this story, somewhere in between Brain of Morbius, (or maybe Planet of Evil) and the Invisible Enemy, which I just can't quite remember, only to wake up and realise....
