A winter reading list (for the next five winters)

My heart is like a Tokyo apartment: There's just enough room for the immediate family, a couple members of the extended family who haven't totally shamed themselves, one (1) Significant Other (hello, my dear), and one (1) Zojirushi NS-JCC18 Neuro Fuzzy 10-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer.

In spite of the tight accommodations, however, George Clingerman has been managing to find a cozy spot in my COLD, DARK, and CRAMPED little blood pumper.

First, the guy writes one hell of a kind review of the most recent MSDN Event in Portland (a kind review from Vaughn as well (thanks very much, both of you)), and then he goes on to compile many of the book suggestions from the Best Damn Book Ever post into one list.

Check it out, yo:

"You forgot 'The Sword Of Truth' series by Terry Goodkind."

No - *George* forgot it. It's George's list.

Are you sitting next to George?

Punch him for me, please.

Thanks.

oh, i see how it is. i pour my blood, sweat, tears and other bodily fluids i won't mention since Rory gets a little squeamish when i talk that dirty with him (at least he does when he's in front of a crowd full of people), into a list for everyone's benefit and what do i get, an official finger pointing from rory. yep, good ol' rory passing the buck. good ol' rory not taking any blame. and sean being a moron for saying "You forgot" when this is the first freaking time he has ever posted to this site so there's no way i *forgot* it because it wasn't in the original 81 comments on the original post.

so there. (and by the way, sean doesn't sit next to me, they hide him in the back in a room with no windows, i get to sit on the high traffic aisle because i'm a pretty boy and the customers like to see the eye candy)

First i read the title (as you do) and i'm thinking 'here we go' rolling my eyes.

but low-and-behold THGTTG is there, so i keep reading, seeing the Dali Lllama (that guy rocks, he could really make something of himself), Dune, Jenna Jameson's book (i'll have to look into it now - didn't think it was my scene)

And right down the bottom, 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintainence' which is a favourate of mine, not really bed time material that one - but i loved it.

As far as fantacy book's go, i'd be adding janny wurts and david/leigh eddings.

but thats a good list, might have to look a few more of those up.

Hey Rory, this entry is screwing up your RSS feed. Seems like you have an undeclared namespace for the X prefix, which causes RSS Bandit to puke (got to declare your namespaces). Odds are you copy pasted a bit of text from Word and didn't clean it completely up.

Good call :)

I copied it from Excel and thought I had cleaned it up, but it looks like I missed a bit.

Thanks, mister.

"Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom" http://www.craphound.com/down/download.php was a fun recent read that appealed to my sense of cyberpunk as well as my love of that particular theme park.

I agree with most of the list but one: someone once induced me to read "Clan of the Cave Bear" and I was shocked, nay stunned, to learn that Neanderthals were supplanted by...Californians.

Hmm... A couple come to mind.
The Arthur C. Clarke series 2001, 2010, 2061, 3001 were great.
Lately I've been hooked on Clive Cussler, 'http://www.geocities.com/qwert231/cussler.htm', especially Deep Six.

And I have read the entire <a href='http://www.watchtower.org/bible/index.htm'>bible</a>. Happens to be the most widely distributed, most read, (and least understood) book in the world.

I just finished Richard Clarke's Against All Enemies. It's a great book. Chomsky's Hegemony or Survival is also very interesting. Two radically different opinions who both seem to agree that the Bush Administration is a bunch of retards.
