Dream #53 - Amusing the alien

I don't know if it's Vegas or what, but I had a slew of crazy dreams last night.

Some of them were long and disjointed while others were fairly linear (although strange), but sandwiched inbetween them was this very short misfiring of the neurons...

I was standing in some kind of a huge hall with a group of people and, of course, one of H. R. Giger's aliens (as in: like the one from the movie "Alien").

This one was different, though. It had a human brain strapped to the top of its head, and this brain was green.

Another thing that was odd about this alien: it was laughing. If you can imagine one of these horrors of horrors smiling, then that's what this thing was doing.

I was talking to it; telling it jokes. It was loving them. Everything I said was the funniest thing in the universe to this alien. It tipped its head back and howled with laughter.

One of the people standing with us said, "He thinks you're pretty funny" and "He seems to really like you."

As soon as he said this, things went south. The alien's brain exploded in a chunky wet mist of brain parts flying in every direction (including on us), it stopped laughing, and the grin disappeared.

I realized then that the human brain was what was allowing it to experience humor and amusement. Without that, it just wanted to maul things.

Fortunately, I woke up right about then. The alien was staring right at me, no longer finding me funny, but staring at me in a predatory fashion.

I had a similar dream, except mine involving more running than laughing and in the end when I woke up, a silhouette of the Alien was standing at the foot of my bed like a gunslinger reader to take me out. I didn’t sleep for about a week after that. I had just come home from my uncle’s where he introduced me to the wonderful world of horror movies. My parents were not impressed. I was 10 at the time.

Let me put it to you as clear as possible, you are very, VERY worried that things in your life are going to change. You see, the hall of people represents your various co-workers, those ones that you're not that close to but you exchange occasional pleasantries with (hence the exchanges like "He thinks you're pretty funny" in your dream. Just a bunch of word fluff because of course he thinks you're funny, you can see him laughing, you don't need to be told "He thinks you're pretty funny", it's a pleasantry), the Alien represents your current employment situation, mainly Microsoft (it's pretty easy to see why you might imagine Microsoft (not the products, but the corporation, well maybe some of the products) to be a horrific alien creature bent on your destruction (oh come on, you have to have thought that at least once), the brain are all your close co-workers, people like Jim Blizzard, that really make your Microsoft experience the fun and laughing good times that it currently is (and we've all picked up from your blog, just how much fun you've been having working for Microsoft with all those guys and gals), the brain exploding, that's your fear of changes to come, people leaving Microsoft, the happy family you've got going, drifting off to other things, the brain's no longer controlling the beast, the fun and games are gone, it’s just you and Microsoft. It will devour you.

.....well, that's just one interpretation. It could have something to do with your sister and Dad burning your book or maybe you had a bad taco? You just can't ever tell.

I liked the one above, but here is my
simpler interpretation (more technical?): this alien represents a computer. If it did have a brain it could have emotions and understand humor. Or even be creative. But it can't, because it doesn't have a brain and I don't think computers will ever be able to simulate one. So I think, you just realized in your dream that people can not be replaced by computers. Idk, I'm not a good interpreter...

I believe what is really going on is you are worried about George. He is the brain that finds you so entertaining (which we all do, but not quite like George). However without him, you would only be left with....Sean.

I can't believe Rory did not comment on even one of the dream interpretations. Maybe my interpretation hit a little too close to the truth, hm Rory?

Naw... I was in Vegas with bronchitis in the middle of a seven week stint on the road.

I was, in other words, just plain old tired :)

Too tired to comment...
