Wikipedia is kind of dumb - Check *my* wiki out instead

[Update: I’m an idiot. David Ornstein is actually the father of FlexWiki – not Craig.]

I realize that this probably won’t make me a lot of friends, but I just wanted to say that Wikipedia is kind of dumb.

Its heart is in the right place, but I just don’t see myself trusting an encyclopedia that’s maintained by people from all over the globe, some of whom can spell, some of whom can’t, and some of whom still have their wits about them, and many of whom who don’t.

And, instead of writing some big long argument about why I think Wikipedia is lame, I set up my own wiki in which I’d like you to take part.

The one thing is has going on right now is the “NeoWikiDiki” – A totally unreliable dictionary. It’s meant to demonstrate how crappy a globally administered and authored reference can be.

Check it out.

I used FlexWiki, Craig’s brainchild, which kicks wiki ass. It was easy to set up and easy to figure out.

Rory,

The "For the wikignorant" section of your Wiki doesn't link. I get an error message. Sorry.

Rory,

This is awesome! The only thing I find myself wanting to do is add my comments as to how funny each definition is....guess since it's a Wiki, I could, but maybe we should have some guidelines as to how those are entered.

Wikipedia's not all bad.

I've used it as a starting point to to gain some knowledge and then gone out and done my own research to back it up.

I wouldn't trust its facts with my life either, but what about something produced by professionals? See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/4209575.stm

The best bit about wikipedia is that it's the definitive source of information about the klingon empire :-)

I've also just discovered that the sixth season of the simpsons is going to be released in June - you won't get that sort of useful information in the Encyclopaedia Britannica!

Great idea Rory. I just added an entry for Gullible. Funny thing is that the wikipedia did not have a definition either, so I added it there too.

To whomever entered the definition for 'Chicken Pot Pie': You owe me a new keyboard since I just filled mine with Coke spat from my mouth.

Thank You.

Glad you like FlexWiki. Too bad it isn't really my brainchild. :) I have done a fair amount of work on it, but the real credit goes to David Ornstein.

A week ago I would have agreed that Wikipedia is dumb, until I ran across the story of the heavy metal umlaut on it. My life has changed.

Rory this is the dumbest idea ever! Somebody put the word Shuttlecock in your wiki dictionary and that's not even a word!

How could you trust a bunch of anonymous people to collaborate and make a successful dictionary. You must be high or something Rory!

I thought you had better sense than this.

I'm not sure it's even worth reading your blog anymore with a dumb idea like getting a bunch of nobody's together to write the definitions of words. I mean who could even trust it's accuracy?

What a moronic concept Rory!! I tried to use your WikiDiki to write an e-mail to my Boss, but your stupid dictionary messed THAT all up.

Horrid concept. Absolutely HORRID!!!!!!!!!

Rory, do you know how to get FlexWiki to allow you to upload attachments? Is this even supported? That was the one thing that held me back from using it.
