I’ve been messing around with an acoustic guitar lately. It’s weird because I’m so used to playing electronic stuff – not to have my usual array of tricks and effects really changes the way I play the instrument.
I stopped by my friend Felix’s studio today and got started recording a new song. So new, actually, that it didn’t really exist before today. I asked him if we could record this little acoustic thingy I had been working on, and one thing led to another. Before we knew it, most of a song was written and recorded. It’s the first I’ve ever done without using any processing effects. For most musicians, this is no big deal, but for me, it’s like playing naked.
These surprise songs are my favorites, though. They’re the ones that pop up out of nowhere, completely unexpected, practically writing themselves.
