Server troubles

Dear Everybody,

Having some lame server problems today. Site’s blinking in and out of existence.

Fortunately, I was assured that the problem would be fixed in “5 to 10 minutes,” and I’m not worried, even though the problems are persisting and it’s been a couple hours since I got that note.

Anyway, if you sent me an email at any point in that past twelve (12) hours, then you’ll probably want to resend it later today when the site isn’t behaving like a finicky Tardis.

Thanks,

– Rory

Hey Rory, you should uh.. buy an account with me! ;) it's only $5 a month, I give you 1GB of space, 15GB of transfer (I have bigger plans if you need it), and it's on a win2003 box with ASP.NET.

not that my server doesn't go down, just that it doesn't go down for that long / often :)

Your prices look quite nice...

Do you have SQL Server support?

That note was probably written in network support speak. Roughly translated what it actually means is:
It will actually take 2-3 hours of work to fix your site.
While we're busy with it we'll take the opportunity of installing some patches on there so for a while it won't come back at all. Then we'll remove the patches so that it boots up, and mostly works.
Did we mention that we won't get round to looking at your problems for a couple of hours?

Rory, I sent you around 48 e-mails in the last 12 hours and you're telling me you didn't get ANY of them?

That really sucks.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to try to remember what they were all about and resend them. I knew I should have saved them in my sent items box!

Rory,

You are not the only one with problems on WebHosting4Life. I've had so many problems with them over the last couple months that I'm thinking of finding another hosting company. Email issues, site bouncing up and down, routing issues on their side, it is just way too much.

I think the flux capacitor received 1.22 gigawatts instead of the recommended 1.21 gigawatts of electricity. As a result, your BLOG has gone back to the past instead of the future. I actually read this post on the back of a box of Cheerios in 1985. Too weird, man, too weird.

P.S. - See you tomorrow at the MSDN event if you're in Denver.

Hey Rory,

SQL Server isn't installed, because I haven't had the demand / cashflow to support the license fee. MSDE is installed however, and use of any ODBC driver you like is alright as well. Also, as soon as SQL Express is out, that will also be installed.

I'm pretty easy to work with though, so if you need something installed (servers, dlls, assembilies, etc..) I can do that.

I'll most likely make it up to your portland (OR) MSDN event 5/5/2005, we can talk in more detail there if you like, or just shoot me an email.
