Comic: How I Learned So Much

For some reason, while doing MSDN Events, I’m often asked how I managed to learn so much about Microsoft dev tools and things and stuff.

In an effort to appear humble, I usually just say something like, “I didn’t learn anything. I’ve been making this crap up for the past four hours.”

People like that answer. They give me those “Ah, I see” nods in response, like everything just became crystal clear.

The truth, however, is very different. I not only know what I’m talking about, but I’m a highly, highly trained professional. The methods employed to get all that information into my brain are anything but conventional.

I think the following comic accurately conveys the Microsoft Method of Educatory Knowledge Implantation Transference.

Yup. That's the truth.

And nothing but.

I really appreciate Dr. Banana's realism. I've worked in Redmond for the Empire and I know of the Good Doctor.

I really empathise Rory, it's terrible knowing so much.

Unfortunately my data banks are completely full and there's no chance of destroying my knowledge of what makes a good espresso... some things in my life take priority in my life and a good espresso + kretek do.

Rory,

I don't know what I'd do without your blog to read (probably work). Your comics rival the sponge monkeys and evil kittens of rathergood.com

P.S. Nice skirt.

Ahhh...then I COULD get a job with Microsoft! I don't need to know anything up front. I just need to be able to handle a little pain from a psycho chihuahua (which I do on a daily basis anyway), barf in bright day-glo colors, and start all my explanations with "so"...

How do I sign up???

Rory, I feel all icky when I don't visit your blog site at least once a day. Your kilt's not too shabby either.

P.S. I always knew you were Microsoft's #1 Dev. Long live Rory!

I feel agree with you Heather. I don't know how some people manage.

Was on the phone to a great bloke at MS UK yesterday, there was a major problem which shot him down in my estimation... he just didn't know about Rory. What's this world coming to?

"Um....is that an ewok? And....is it saying 'yub, yub'?"

Yeah.

That's, like, what ewoks say.

It means "Oh" and also "Cool" and sometimes "Crap!" and occasionally "Let's agree to disagree" while also being able to mean "I didn't order the chicken." It's contextual.

Here, though, it simply means "Yub yub."

Last time I was at the MS UK office, some employees watched as I ate my "chips" with ketchup.

After that, nobody wanted anything to do with me.

I'm afraid my standing with the UK softies might never recover.
