Portland Nerds - Dodgeball? Eh?

I don’t know if any of you Portland nerd types would be interested, but there’s going to be a dodgeball tournament on June 17th, and I want to enter a team representing my homies.

We’d be playing against people who are everywhere from 16 to, like, 100 years old, which I think gives us a fighting chance.

I was also thinking we could hire Tonya Harding to hobble the competition the day before the game, but even so, I have faith that we could…

…well, probably get our asses kicked. We’re nerds. This standing up and moving thing isn’t what we do.

But it could be.

Eh?

EH?

Let me know if you’re interested. I’ll post about it again as we get closer to the date.

My boyfriend is on a dodgeball team in Portland. His company is one of the many that are getting involved in it.
Hope to see you there! ..and good luck getting a team together, there aren't many nerds who feel the need to run around like chickens with their heads cut off while having big squishy balls thrown at them.

Vancouver totally counts, and I'd love for you to be on the Dodgeball team (which, so far, doesn't have a name, but that'll change).

This is actually part of a fundraiser for this community center that my father's secretary runs (long story).

It's for a very, very good cause, though.

Plus, there's dodgeball, and where there's dodgeball, there's blood.

I'm excited.

Hang out with Rory and play Dodgeball? Only if you promote by blog as The Next Big Thing (tm) and The Greatest Thing You've Read Since the Rice Krispie Box That Told the Life Story of Robots That Were Ripped Off From Transformers and Were Smaller Than Your Spoon and Broke Trying to Get Them To Transform.

Yup. Count me in.

Will you be showing your team the training video with the 5 d's of dodgeball? Dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge.

Please get someone to video this and post clips of the matches! :P

And remember: If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!

So are we going to do practices? Or are we talking about just showing up on the 17th and giving Portland a true taste of just how badass techies can be?

Also, Wifey was curious about any rules and regulations regarding how skimpy her cheerleading outfit can be.

Munich counts, but you have to pay your own bus fare.

The Skimp Factor of your wife's cheerleading outfit is less important than that it be fitted with regulaion nipple extenders.

I don't know what those are, but I bet you can buy them on teh 'tarwebs.

I'll start training now. (i think that involves large men beaning me with their small pink balls, but I've always considered that a good evening out anyway....)

Shouldn't we just name the team after your XBox live name?

Dodgeball and geeks, definitely sound like a cinematic event. Count me in Rory. Whatever the name of the team is. Just let me know when and where for practice.

P.S. I will talk to my wife about cheerleading, but someone else is going to have to bring up the "nipple extenders".

It's funny - I *was* thinking about naming it The Flaming Torpedoes, but thought better of it. Having to explain it to everyone present would be a bit of a headache...

Also, anybody who's responded so far - consider yourselves involved. When it comes time to officially do the team stuff, I'll contact you.

You guys should totally hire Patches O'Houlihan to coach the team.

I'd come if I could but I'm in the wrong continent. Sounds like it should be a blast, and even if you lose it'll still be fun.

Remember, it's not whether you win or lose that matters; what really matters is that, after the game you can check your email on a hand-held personal computer with 802.11b wireless internet access -- those non-techies won't know what hit them!

(And if that fails you can hand out some virus infested CDs :-)

Good luck with those nipple extenders!
