Front page of Channel 9 - Well, *that's* just really neat

My body is confused. I fed it breakfast at dinner time, and lunch at sleep time. I haven’t fed it dinner yet, and the sun is already coming up.

I learned this week that the middle of the night, when everybody else is in bed, is the easiest time to get work done. No politics. No distractions. No phone ringing. No email BING!. Just work.

And it paid off.

It is my honor to be able to say that I’ve graced the home page for Channel 9. I didn’t think that’d ever happen, and it was just what I needed this week. Not to sound totally vulnerable or anything, but it’s a validating feeling, and I’m proud of the screencasts I did, so I’m glad they’re getting that kind of exposure. I feel like hugging total strangers and kicking pigeons (I hate pigeons).

Thank you, thank you, thank you Channel 9 people – in particular, Jeff Sandquist and Charles Torre.

I kiss you both.

You’ve made an exhausted little geek very, very, very happy…

Awesome work Rory. Someone really needs to take care of those pigeons once and for all.

Maybe you should do a new screencast on how to create a "kill the pigeons" game on ppc complete with realistic bird shit effects.

That said, how about some game related screencasts?

Thanks Rory for giving-up your dream time to produce a bunch of screancasts, you’re just what Channel9 needed.

Now if you could do one screancast a week that would be an accomplishment, if you influence just one or two young people into getting started in Mobile development, that would really be something...

Well, I'm still dragging my feet on this whole mobile development thing but I did watch the first screencast and I do like the emulator stuff.

Maybe if I could just win one of the darn things at an MSDN event I'd feel a little more excitement about developing for them ;)

(of course, now if i DO win one everyone will cry foul play, dang it!)

I'll try and watch some more and make some notes on any feedback I have (speaking of notes, if only the lights had stayed on....)

I totally believe it.

In fact, I planned it.

I might not be good at much, but I've definitely learned a thing or two about shameless self-promotion and how to grab attention.

Of course, I'll eventually go to hell for all of this, but the point is moot since I don't believe in hell.

Which means I'm a happy camper.

I'd totally play that game.

I love animals, and I'm a pacifist, but if someone makes a game that lets me kill pigeons en masse, I'm there.

"That said, how about some game related screencasts?"

That might happen - but I'll need a partner for those since I'm too dumb to do game programming on my own.

The last time I wrote a game, it was a dirty version of breakout for the PocketPC. I spent a weekend sitting in front of eVC++, swearing a lot, and just barely managing to get the game to work.

I got the mechanics down, but then realized I still had to do levels, menus, etc., and also get permission from That One Girl to use her photo in the game. I don't know who she was, but something tells me that she and her boobies would have sued me if she had ever found out about it.

And thank *you*, Paul, for having been there all these years to encourage me when I do these things.

It's harder than it looks to do this stuff, so the kind words go a long way.

So, thanks infinity :)

As we recently discussed, you're a luddite, so you don't have to like Windows Mobile.

But, someday, you'll realize what you've been missing out on, and you'll come crawling - *begging* - for me to teach you about this stuff.

Oh, yeah.

Uh-huh.

Mark my words, Clingerman.

You.

Will.

Rory,

Your screencasts are absolutely fantastic. I'm happy you've gone the Channel9 route instead of tiny things because so many devs don't realize how great the cf is. I've been making all kinds of stuff for my 2125. Your stuff about SNAPI rocked my world. Never new about it until now.

(By the way, with VB.Net, you can do owner.Text = SystemState.OwnerName...cause we're VB guys and we're dumb ;) )

Seriously, this will go a long way (I hope) to getting devs to see how powerful a device can be...and how easy it can be to build for it.

Gotta get myself an 8125...I'm smitten.

Dude! *Thank you*.

Wow. I'm happy. Very happy that people are digging this stuff.

So very happy.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you....

You, sir, are the man. Not for making awesome screencasts, but for settling an argument between me and my wife. She used to ridicule me for the way, the correct way, that I say "varchar." I say it like you do, the var part sounding like "far" and the char part sounding like the first word of the phrase "char grilled." The way she (used to) say it rhymed with "fair care." But if you, a Microsoft employee, agree with me, who can be against me?

So anyway, thank you for telling my wife that I am better than she is.
