Thanks, People - I've Got an Idea for Linky Stuff

I just wrote that linky post where I got all linky and linked to people.

I don't like writing those posts because they're just big long "Here's why I like these people" posts, but I don't expect other people to relate all that much. Hopefully, some of the descriptions get you guys going, but the posts are too long, I think, to hold attention long enough to make it useful.

So, new system.

I think I may have done this in the past, but I don't remember. I might have just had the idea. Don't know. Don't remember. Have forgotten. Forgetting isn't the opposite of remembering. There's a deep-ass quote for your Monday morning.

Whats I'm gon' do is teh link out at the bottom of each post. I did do something similar in the old days, for those of you who were around for the "After Blog Mint" (named for the mint they put on your pillow in hotels in the morning - the little dessert following what was hopefully a debauched night that put you in the slammer, so you couldn't even enjoy your mint if you wanted to, but it's the thought that counts, and please support the hotel industry - every little bit helps - I bet you didn't even know they were in trouble (they're not)).

Instead of 'splaining up and down whats I'm gon' do, I'm just gon' demo it.

I'm not sure how many people I'll link to with each of these things, but I think 2-3 is a fair number.

The point of this, by the by, is to get these links out without having to:

A) Write a whole post for it.

B) Get all up in peoples' faces with my cyber-gratitude.

Here we go. Hang on.

Seriously. Grab on to something. Imagine that the "Please put on your seatbelt" warning light of my site is blinking and dinging at you. Don't even worry right now about not having a seatbelt where you're sitting. Just do your best.

This is it.

Right here.

Comin' up.

Makin' it happen.

Voila...

See? This is a nice out of the way place for links. I'll post a little link back to this post so that people who aren't familiar with the way the Rodawgg rolls can get their deignorification on. Explanation over - demo commencing:

- Cliff - I haven't decided yet if I'm going to include short descriptions of the site - if I do, it'll probably look something like this (imagine all this explanatory BS wasn't here): Cliff combines an interest in Java and Linux with a writing style that evokes urban America where slang is complicated, but you'll get it because we're all human and also the words are mostly the same.

- Massif - Even though I've linked to Massif, like, fifty times, he got all whiny in a recent post about how I didn't link to him - to embarrass him, I'm linking to him here. This should teach him a lesson. That said, Massif has been a good cyber-buddy. I'd give him the biggest diamond in the world if I could afford it, except that I'd actually get it for myself because I'm not a frikkin' idiot.

- Danny Douglass - Danny was all, "Rory is so awesome for having created that so awesome CSS handler that everybody in the universe is going to be using including PHP coders even though we hate them." I am thanking Danny for this royal compliment by giving him linkage.

Eh? Eh?

What do you think? Shorter descriptions? Also, keep in mind that all this explainy crap won't be here. The top will just be one short sentence.

To keep it from being annoying, I think I'll either have to go with shorter descriptions or only two links.

I could just trade back and forth, so maybe it doesn't matter.

Anyhoo, I see this as potentially the awesomest way to thank all you bastards for your attention. When implemented properly, I think the people who don't want to see it will get accustomed to skipping it, but you'll still get some google power.

Lemme know. And, for serious - the real thing, I think, would probably be done in half of this space or less, so imagine you that in your big bad brain. BOOYAH.

And, when will the creation story be complete? Atleast, tell us how many days it'll have.

To be fair to myself it was a self-aware fit of the whinys. Also I have much and many grattitudes for being linked to and featured in creation and all that  jazz.

I guess it's the psychological effect of seeing a whole list of names and noticing I'm not among them. I think it stems from when Mum used to call me up the stairs, using everyone else in the families names. I think I've been trained to notice when my name is missing from a list. (seriously, my name was "Matthew, Charis, Willow, Henry, Matthew..." being called my brother's name by accident wouldn't be so bad, but my sister's and the cat's just pushed it too far. Fortunately since I left home she can remember who I am.)

Also, I came up with a non-out-of-character way for my guardian angel to link back to you... (Also now I'm worried because I had one of those "some dialog you weren't expecting popped up while you were typing and got dismissed again by the space bar before you noticed, and now you have no idea what you've agreed to" moments. Someone really should prevent modal dialogues allowing keyboard input until maybe a second or so after they're fully drawn.)

Ordinarily I'd resist the temptation to link back, because it feels all "me too!" but I have no idea what else he's going to say today. And I really should write something because I missed writing something on Friday.

Whoah... you're still around :)

It always surprises me when someone I haven't heard from in a while pops up (I don't recall having seen comments from you recently, so I could be mistaken).

I usually assume everybody's gone away because I'm posting a wee too much about fun and fluff.

It's nice to see some people have stuck around :)

Interesting... I remember a few people imitating the format, which I thought was really cool, but didn't otherwise know they dug it.

I guess I can make this new thing a cross between my old "Shout out to my homies" category (http://www.neopoleon.com/home/blogs/neo/archive/category/1039.aspx) and my straight-up linky posts.

It's still cool, and the links add up. I'm sure my goal with this new thing will change over time, but right now it's about:

1. Getting my friends some noticeness.

2. Getting my friends some google.

I hope it'll help a bit - every link does, I imagine, though I'm mostly a google authority ignoramus. I get the bigger ideas, but I'm not too smartish on what kind of influence us lesser ranked people wield.

Maybe over time we can all boost each other.

I'd like to see a mini echo chamber come into being, but not where we'd engage in a "conversation" as the A-Listers love to say. Rather, I'd like a free-for-all that anybody can join, where the conversation consists mainly of calling each other douches and assholes :)

That's my kind of a conversation.

I'm very charming.

Not whiny at all. As far as I'm concerned, you guys all deserve something in return. I wouldn't have any ranking at all if it weren't for people pushing me up along the way.

When I realized that, it felt like I'd done something horrible. It came from not having time while working to really go out and see what was doing elsewhere. Even now, I spend much more time writing than reading, so I still don't get out to see all that's doing, though I do see where people are being excessively kind, and I'm tremendously thankful for that.

So, thank you. There was no whiny to be found.

I was thinking about correcting the post, but then I thought that you should correct your last name.

In the end, I caved. Though I think it's a mutant appellation, I'm willing to find forgiveness in my heart.

"And, when will the creation story be complete? Atleast, tell us how many days it'll have."

Frogot to answer you that.

I don't know when it'll be complete. So much of day six is written that it shouldn't be too long.

I'm going to take a break from playing with video to try and finish it. The video thing is really fun right now because I've been learning Final Cut, and there's a great satisfaction to it. When I was at 9, I used Premier, but never got into the nitty-gritty. And, though anybody who knows anything about putting video together would find my knowledge superficial, I'm enjoying the process. It's not every day that The Smartest Man in the World finds something new to learn :)

As for how many days there are in the story - there's the rest of day six and the whole of day seven. Day seven is going to be short, though. Not super short, but, after day six, anything'd look short.

It'll be good. I also have most of day seven written.

The cool thing is that it's been stewing in the back of my head. I can feel it assembling itself. That's a a part of the process I'm learning to love because it's where the story comes out to surprise *me* and tell itself to *me*. I get every bit as much enjoyment as anybody else who's digging it - I also want to see what happens.

It's weird, but... fantastic.

I'm here because you're a reliably entertaining read. I'm not that fussed what it's about specifically. I like a bit of variety, and I suspect others do too.

Well said, and true. We're an open minded, geeky crowd. I don't think any of the boring, close minded techies really got you anyways, Rory.

And we like to be entertained.

"EST, to me, is like Monopoly money."

See how much your writing style has improved since you quit your day job? That was a great comparison. That simile really moved me, Rory. It's writing like that which will make you a best seller some day.
