Hello, my peeps.
I'm going to relax for a few days. Going to do a couple videos, finish the penultimate chapter of the creation story, continue editing The Book, do more work on another short story (that you'll love - my motivation to finish the creation story has gone through the roof, as it means that, when I'm done, I can put more time into the next story), and try to pretend the holidays aren't happening. Ever since my maternal grandmother died, I've found the holidays really depressing, and even more so now that my paternal grandmother is gone, too. The depression begins halfway through December and stops just after New Year's. I don't mind, though - it's always better to be down due to an outside stimulus than a chemical imbalance (the bipolar meds are still amazing the hell out of me in that respect - I'm happy when I should be, sad when I should be - never thought I'd be excited to be sad).
Another thing I want to do is work on a Facebook app. I've been brainstorming, and I came up with the total awesomest idea. It's possible it's already been done, but as Microsoft showed Apple with Windows in the 80s, it doesn't matter who gets there first or whose product is better.
I was hoping there'd be someone else out there who'd want to work on the project with me. It looks like it's fairly easy to write Facebook apps, and there are quite a few toolkits out there for different platforms. Given that it's the best development platform in the whole effing universe (having created the universe, I should know), I'm going to use good ol' .Net.
C# and ASP.Net - that's the plan. Also, if you have a copy of VS 2008, I could really use it. I could trade a copy of Vista Ultimate for it - I know the deal would be better for me, but there are quite a few of you out there who, for whatever reasons, have spare copies. I used to trip over them while walking into people's offices, or visiting customer sites. I know the score.
The app is going to be ad-supported, and even though I plan to make exactly zero dollars with it (I find these ad-revenue plans don't work out quite like you hope), I'll share a fair portion of those zero dollars with you.
So, to summarize, here's what I'm looking for:
- Another .Net coder (preferably C# - VB.Net bugs me) who knows ASP.Net and can see what an opportunity working for some percentage of zero dollars is.
- A copy of VS 2008 for which I'd be happy to trade a copy of Vista Ultimate, though I'd rather you just gave it to me outright. I don't deserve it, but "...the less
deserve, the more merit is in your bounty." I think Shakespeare is trying to tell you something.
- It'd be an especially rad bonus if you live in Portland. I'd like to be able to work on this in person. My second choice would be video chat using iChat and iSight. Apple's video chat rocks whatever else you've got. However, just as I'm not requiring that you live in Portland (Neopoleon.com will not pay relocation expenses should you decide to move for this project), I don't require iChat with the iSight. If you've got something else you think would work, then let's go for it. Speaking of which, I also have the Xbox 360 cam - if you have that, it's a decent video chat thing, too.
The goal is to have a bit of fun while possibly making some dough. Fun is the priority - dough is just a pleasant What If.
This first app will be freaky popular (I think), so just having your name plastered all over it, along with links to your blog/other site, should toot your little horn to your satisfaction.
So, like I said, a couple more videos on the way, but probably won't post any writing again until after New Year's. I'm getting lost inside my psycho imagination again, meaning I'm going to disappear for a while.
[Gratuitous Links to my Homies - Not Part of the Post Above] [Learn More]
Yay! I'm not skipping this section tonight. It bugged the hell out of me to have left it blank in my last two posts, but, for once, I'm not late for anything, so I can take my time here...
- Ved Maneriker - "Literary Musings" - I like getting links from people when it's clear their interests are in the Word Nerd side of things rather than just the Tech Nerd stuff. It feels like my writing is being validated, and I like that. I'm cocky, but that doesn't mean I'm sure of myself. I also like that, in his sidebar link, he calls me "The Neopoleon" - I'm going to start calling myself that. I like having a definite article ("The") before my name - I'm not just any Neopoleon - I am The Neopoleon. Thanks, Ved :)
- Greg Hughes - Greg referenced my long Windows-Movie-Maker-Sucks post. I appreciate it - it took me a while to write it, and I wrote it with the intention that it might help a few people. It was also, like many of my posts, a small book. Anybody who took the time to read, and maybe even enjoy it, gets my thanks.
- Clint Rutkas - I'm never going to get over how awesome a domain "betterthaneveryone.com" is. I also can't help but be enormously flattered by someone who takes so much joy in having been mentioned on my site. Flattering the insecure is a sure way to get some love back.
That's it for tonight, methinks. Just a reminder - if you want a link in this section, then you can either leave a comment here, or you can email me. Either way, I'm digging this business of getting to give some links back, so don't be shy. I don't care if you've linked to me or not - if you're here, then you're doing me a huge favor, so let me do something for you in return.
