I think most homophobia stems from people needing to find a way to feel superior to someone else, just to feel better about themselves (because they secretly know they're really losers.) It's based on the quote from Dilbert's boss: "You're doing something different from me. That's how I know you're wrong."
I don't know if Rory really qualifies as an asshole. He can certainly say more about less than most people. I think for me to evaluate someone as an asshole requires that I see how they behave when they are in a position of power over another person, or how they drive. So far, I don't think you're an asshole either, but I've never seen you drive. All babies are assholes because they are completely self-centered. They are also completely pragmatic, which makes for an interesting mix. Come to think of it, babies and cats have a lot in common. Good thing neither of them can drive.
