Your podcast has been published on all the popular platforms. But how can you promote your podcast in an interesting way? A text with a link might not have the right power of persuasion. How can you generate significantly more traffic to your podcast? Let’s discuss a few possibilities to improve the visibility of your podcast.
Create a podcast trailer
A podcast trailer is usually between 30 to 60 seconds long and contains facts and highlights of what your episode has to offer. Make sure you always mention the title of your podcast at the beginning of your trailer and give a brief overview of what your listener can expect from the episode. Keep it clear, concise and to the point. Share interesting quotes from featured guests to excite the listener. Conclude with a clear call to action.
Create an audiogram
An audiogram is a static image that is converted into video by adding audio to it and placing a ‘sound wave’ and transcripts on top of it. But why turn the audio of your podcast into a video? An audio transcript performs better than a text or static image shared. This was shown in research in which a podcast episode was shared in two different ways on Facebook. A static image versus an audiogram. The audiogram generated 5 times more interaction and traffic. The static image generated 118 clicks and the audiogram generated 660. That is a significant difference.
Create a transcript
A transcript of your podcast that you share on your website contributes to your SEO. It’s easier for search engines to know what your podcast episode is about. People are more likely to watch and listen to something when it’s subtitled. Without the subtitles it might not be immediately clear that you’re dealing with a video. You can avoid this by adding an animation that indicates that the video also contains audio. But that is not the only reason why we use subtitles: no less than 85% of videos are played without sound. For YouTube, you should make an exception. When you upload your audiogram to YouTube, you do so without transcription in the video. You need to upload your transcription separately, that way your audiogram can be indexed by search engines, and that contributes to your SEO. But how can you create transcripts for your podcast? You can manually transcribe episodes off course, but that’s a ton of work. Online you can find many applications that convert mp3 to text completely automatic!
Create a nice visual experience
Ask for a few pictures of your guest (or guests) so that you have several options to choose from. You can of course also choose to take a photo during the recording of the podcast. If you have a podcast where other people are not interviewed very often, then use a picture of yourself. The headline in your audiogram should be thought-provoking. It should make your listener think and make them want to listen to the whole episode. You don’t have to limit yourself to the title of your episode. You can also ask a question or make a statement.
